The “Access to Employment” program aims to improve employability among young people. It is led by the Conseil économique et coopératif de la Saskatchewan (CÉCS) and funded by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
The program aims to:
- Remove barriers to employment
- Equip participants with various skills and knowledge to fully participate in the job market today and in the future
To do this, participants undergo a three-week training course, which prepares them for the professional world. Then, they experience a work-placement for 18 weeks.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age between 15 and 30
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Right to work according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
- No employment insurance benefits
- Be available / not enrolled in a study program
The program includes several workshops:
- Career exploration
- Personal development
- Continuation of studies and training
- Job search techniques and tools
- Writing resumes and cover letters
- Interview simulation
- Leadership development
- Health and security at work
- Occupational hygiene
- Time and financial management
- Labour standards in Saskatchewan and Canada
- Community service and volunteering
- Networking
- Communication and cultural diversity in the workplace
